As the backbone of the American economy, employees deserve more respect than they often get. We believe that every employee deserves the security of a workplace free from abusive behavior, discrimination, or inequality of any kind.
Sadly, this is often not the case for many employers. The truth is that employers at many workplaces benefit from an environment where their employees don’t have a full idea of their personal rights and privileges. Whether this is done intentionally or by omission, the end result is the same: an environment where employees are unable to give their informed consent regarding the conditions they work in and the treatment they receive.
In toxic work environments, employers attempt to take advantage of their employees, either by subjecting them to unreasonable or unfair conditions, underpaying them, misclassifying their work status, discriminating against certain people, or a variety of other abuses. While the motive for those abuses may vary, they are often attempts on the employer’s part to profit at employees’ expense.
